Frequently asked therapy questions and answers

Can Therapy Help Anxiety?

Therapy can help you understand your anxiety, recognise the thoughts, situations and experiences that trigger it, and develop healthier ways of responding when anxious feelings arise. It can also provide a confidential space to explore why anxiety may have developed in the first place.

Can Therapy Help With Addiction?

Therapy can help you understand addictive behaviours, recognise personal triggers and explore the emotional or psychological factors that may contribute to them. It can also help you develop healthier ways of coping and support positive, sustainable change.

How Do I Book An Appointment?

Booking a therapy appointment is straightforward. Simply get in touch to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you may have and find a suitable time for your first session. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to discuss before making contact.

How Do I Know If I Need Therapy?

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If thoughts, emotions, behaviours or experiences are affecting your wellbeing, relationships or everyday life, talking to a therapist can provide an opportunity to understand what is happening and consider what you would like to change.

How Does CBT Work?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It can help you identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and understand how these may influence the way you feel and respond to particular situations.

How Many Therapy Sessions Will I Need?

There is no set number of therapy sessions that is right for everyone. Some people come to therapy with a specific issue they would like to address over a relatively short period, while others benefit from longer-term therapy that allows more time to explore deeply rooted experiences and patterns.

How Much Does Therapy Cost?

The cost of therapy depends on the type of session and support you require. Fees and session arrangements will always be explained clearly before therapy begins, so you understand the cost, how frequently you may attend and can decide whether the approach is right for you.

How Often Should I Attend Therapy?

Many people attend therapy once a week, particularly when they first begin, as regular sessions can provide continuity and help build momentum. However, the right frequency depends on your circumstances, therapeutic needs and the type of support you are seeking.

Is Everything I Say Confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of therapy. What you discuss during your sessions is treated as private, allowing you to speak openly about thoughts, feelings and experiences that you may not feel comfortable discussing elsewhere.

What Happens During The First Session?

Your first therapy session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, begin exploring what you would like help with and get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with your therapist. You are not expected to tell your entire story in one appointment.

What Is The Difference Between Counselling & Psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are both forms of talking therapy and there is considerable overlap between them. Broadly, counselling may focus on a particular issue or current difficulty, while psychotherapy can involve deeper exploration of longstanding emotional patterns, relationships and past experiences.
