Question

Can Therapy Help Anxiety?

Therapy can help you understand your anxiety, recognise the thoughts, situations and experiences that trigger it, and develop healthier ways of responding when anxious feelings arise. It can also provide a confidential space to explore why anxiety may have developed in the first place.

Understanding Your Anxiety

Anxiety can affect people in very different ways. You may experience persistent worry, panic, racing thoughts, physical tension, difficulty sleeping or a sense that something is wrong even when you cannot identify a particular reason.

For some people anxiety is connected to work, relationships, finances or major changes in life. For others it may be linked to self-confidence, previous experiences or patterns of thinking that have gradually become difficult to manage.

Therapy allows you to explore these experiences without judgement. Rather than simply trying to suppress anxious feelings, you can begin to recognise your triggers and understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Different therapeutic approaches can also introduce practical techniques for managing anxiety and challenging unhelpful patterns of thought.

If anxiety is affecting your thoughts, relationships or everyday life, therapy can help you understand what you’re experiencing and develop healthier ways to manage it
