Depression

Depression can affect how you think, feel and experience everyday life, often leading to low mood, loss of motivation, isolation or a sense that things have become difficult to manage. Therapy provides a confidential, supportive space to explore these feelings and the experiences or patterns that may contribute to them. Recover Therapy can help you better understand your depression, develop healthier ways of coping and work towards positive, meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.

When Sadness Becomes Hard to Manage

Everyone experiences periods of sadness or low mood, but depression can feel more persistent and begin to affect many areas of everyday life. You may find it harder to enjoy things that once mattered to you, struggle with motivation or feel increasingly disconnected from friends, family and the world around you.

These feelings can sometimes be difficult to understand, particularly when there is no obvious reason for them. Depression can affect your thoughts, emotions and physical wellbeing, making even ordinary tasks feel overwhelming. Having somewhere to talk openly about what you are experiencing can help you begin to understand these feelings and find a way forward.

Common Symptoms

Depression can affect people in different ways. Emotionally, you may experience feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness or guilt, alongside anger, irritation, restlessness or persistent low mood. Some people may also experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), where symptoms follow a seasonal pattern.

It can also affect your ability to concentrate, make decisions or stay organised. You might find it difficult to sleep, feel persistently tired or lose interest in activities you previously enjoyed. Withdrawing from friends and family, changes in mood and periods of crying can also occur.

Physical changes can include unexplained aches and pains or changes in appetite and eating habits. For some people, depression can become particularly overwhelming and lead to thoughts about death or suicide.
